Andrea Cominola, ECDF-Professor and member of the Board of Directors, receives the 2024 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award for the Division on Hydrological Sciences by the European Geosciences Union (EGU). The award honours individuals for their important contributions to the Earth, planetary and space sciences. They will be celebrated during the EGU General Assembly 2024, which will be held from 14–19 April in Vienna. During the EGU General Assembly in Vienna, Prof. Cominola will also give an award lecture covering his main research achievements and vision. 

“I am very humbled to receive this Award by the European Geosciences Union (EGU). Particularly, I am very happy that the multi-disciplinary signature that characterizes my research and my research group has been valued and recognized at this international level. I owe this award to all researchers and students in our Smart Water Networks team, the research institutions that allowed me to develop my research ideas - Technische Universität Berlin, Einstein Center Digital Future, Politecnico di Milano - the senior scientists that nominated me for this award, all co-authors and collaborators that I had the pleasure to meet and work with in these years. Last but not least,  the whole EGU community has constantly been a source of inspiration and learning for me, since the first EGU conference I attended as a student back in 2013. It has definitely shaped my career choices and ambition” says the ECDF-Professor for Smart Water Networks at TU Berlin, whose multi-disciplinary research focuses on developing data-driven behavioral modelling approaches that bridge hydrologic/hydraulic sciences, informatics, economics, and systems engineering and harness information from multi-scale human data and earth observations and the power of data analytics and machine learning to better understand, model, and characterize human behaviors in coupled human-water systems.
