Dr. Berit Greinke has been appointed professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. She thus takes up the first tenured professorship to emerge from the Einstein Center Digital Future.

On April 1, 2023, Berit Greinke accepted the call of the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) to the permanent professorship "Wearable Computing" at the Institute for Experimental Clothing and Textile Design. Prof. Dr. Berit Greinke thus takes up the first professorship to emerge from the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) research network and be permanently appointed to one of Berlin's universities.

Prof. Greinke was an assistant professor of wearable computing at ECDF and UdK Berlin from August 2018 to April 2023, and she now continues to research and teach as an tenured professor at these institutions. Her research focuses on technical design methods for electronic textiles and their application in artistic formats. In doing so, she combines old textile craftsmanship with new digital technologies: "I am very excited about the now permanent opportunity to work both artistically and scientifically in the field of electronic textiles at the UdK Berlin. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to research in wearable computing from this interdisciplinary approach."

 Prof. Greinke's projects include Interwoven Sound Spaces, a telematic concert performed between Berlin and Piteå (Sweden). Researched was the possibility to extend live music making together over long distances by combining textile wearables, interactive machine learning and spatial sound.
The professorship "Wearable Computing" is the first of up to ten ECDF professorships that will be made permanent and additionally funded by the state of Berlin at the respective Berlin universities. The President of the UdK Berlin Prof. Dr. Norbert Palz: "The research of Berit Greinke is a good example of what can be developed together at the science location Berlin. The arts, design and engineering contribute equally to a technologically novel, socially relevant and artistically valuable project. The ECDF shows this potential to be further promoted."
